Competence
With many thousand kilometers of wilderness canoeing under our belts we have accumulated the necessary local experience needed to provide you with a first class and safe wilderness adventure.
On arrival in Whitehorse you will be given a comprehensive introduction to wilderness rules and several canoeing techniques. We will also provide 2 days before the trip starts (including your day of arrival) to give you enough time to adapt to your new surroundings.
We have all the necessary safety training and equipment on hand. This also includes satellite-phones on all tours.
Escape North Tours Ltd. is fully insured and licensed under the Yukon Wilderness Toursim Act and member of the Wilderness Tourism Association of the Yukon as well as the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon.
Knowledge
Besides being experts at guiding and teaching canoe skills and camping, Escape North Tours prides itself on specializing in local knowledge. We can describe the culture, heritage and ecology of the Yukon and Canada’s north in great depth. Our guides are local (over 20 years in the Yukon) and educated in environmental fields. We can tell you about the people and the land and we encourage minimal impact - leave no trace use of the environment. You will most certainly come away from your river trip with a knowledge and experience unlike any other!
Quality
We are quite proud to have limited the group size to a maximum of 5 participants in whitewater and 7 participants in flatwater and easy whitewater tours. On top of our scheduled trips we offer custom canoe trips. We have the intimate knowledge of a variety of rivers in the Yukon and will be happy to put a tour together to suit your needs.
All of the equipment provided meets the highest standards. For example we rent "The North Face" "Marmot" and "Moss" tents and "therm-a-rest" mattresses for those who do not wish to bring their own tent and mattress. We supply laminated wooden paddles instead of the ol' Mohawks. As for canoes we carry a line of Nova Craft Prospectors 16', 17' and 18' and Mad River Freedoms, which perform best for our purposes. And last but not least we usually receive many compliments for our river cuisine. While many river travelers feed on freeze dried foods, we will be feasting on pizza and fresh bread! No wonder many of our clients return!
