Escape North Tours

Escape North Tours has been founded in 1995 by Stephan Atmanspacher. Since then we offer an increasing amount of exclusive canoe tours. We are based out of Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory, Canada. Our Tours will bring you to the remote and little traveled tributaries of the Yukon River. Our customers appreciate solitude and quietness rather than the company of a large, noisy group.

Our business philosophy encompasses some important principles and we want to share them with you:

1. Direct contact to our customers is most important for us. For this matter we purposely do not want to become a "big trip" operation, despite the fact that this means not to follow the usual business strategies.
2. We have no interest in "processing" as many customers as possible. We want you to have a highly exclusive and personally satisfying experience. We have much smaller groups than most of our competition. We think it is quite encouraging that almost half our customers book a second tour with us and quite a few appreciate our service enough to come back on a regular schedule.
3. We belive that canoeing is one of the best ways - if not the best - to experience the North, a land that produced and used the canoe as it's prime means of transportation for centuries. Canoeing is also a very aesthetic link between a traveler and the land traveled. It is important to us that our customers have an opportunity to see and experience this. It is also one of the reasons why our customers are introduced to the basic canoeing technique prior to every trip. With a base of technique you will not only have much more fun paddling, but you will also be much safer on the water. We use the very best equipment available, including fine looking and ergonomic wooden paddles.
4. With all our trips safety is our number one concern. Our trained and experienced guides know how to avoid and manage dangerous situations. This includes whitewater rescue just as much as bear safety and general safety around camp.
You will be presented with a portfolio of our guide's skills, qualifications and experience, so that you can get an idea of whom you are dealing with. We take pride in sending you out with the best and are sure that your much deserved vacation will be a very positive and safe experience.
5. Escape North Tours is among the leaders in eco-tourism in the Yukon's adventure industry. We greatly respect the Yukon First Nation but also the plant and animal life and apply all possible leave no trace and minimal impact skills to our trips. After we leave a camp nothing will show that we were there except our footprints.

Guides:

Stephan Atmanspacher Stephan Atmanspacher:
As an accomplished mountaineer he climbed in mountain ranges in Europe, Asia and Northamerica. It wasn't until 1986 while roaming the Rocky Mountains that he discovered his passion for canoeing.
As for many other canoeists his idol is the late Bill Mason. Stephans canoeing technique as well as his care for safety reflect Bill Masons philosophy.

Since his heart beats for canoeing rather than his office, Stephan guides many tours himself. He has over 10 years of guiding experience and gathered more than tenthousand miles by canoeing rivers of the Yukon and Alaska wilderness. His experience is the result of many long trips, exploratory, solo and with groups, summer and winter. Stephan earned his stripes as a canoeist by canoeing some tough rivers in Europe and Canada such as the Loisach Griesengorge, or the Little Hyland River in the Yukon. Stephan keeps a current Wilderness First Aid Ticket and is up to date in whitewater rescue and Leave No Trace techniques.
Stephan is not only competent but also prudent and the very opposite of your typical go-getter. Stephan is the owner of Escape North Tours Ltd.

Kate Moylan Kate Moylan:
Kate is known throughout the Yukon and beyond as canoe, kayak and raft instructor and guide. She ran some very difficult rivers with raft and kayak (Bio-Bio in Chile, Reventazon (Costa Rica), Colorado and Green Rivers in USA).

Kate guides rafts on the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers (Yukon, British Columbia and Alaska). She also works for wilderness schools such as NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School USA and Canada) and Outward Bound (Canada). Kate is thouroghly trained in whitewater rescue and has current Advanced Wilderness First Aid and Leave No Trace Tickets.
Kate has lived in the Yukon for 20 years and has intimate knowledge of it's cultural heritage and ecological characteristics. Her patient approach to instruction and guiding combined with tales and stories of the Yukon will captivate and fascinate you throughout the trip.
